Descent
A downloadable game
This is a prototype of Descent, a top down turn based strategy roleplaying game. In it, the player and the enemy take turns moving units into position to attack one another.
The game’s main character has the ability to sacrifice their allies and grow stronger, allowing the player to turn themselves into a one woman army, if they so choose.
Over the course of the game's development, these were some of the things we achieved.
- Designed UI elements including main menu, settings, & sliders
- Drew character concept art, including turnarounds & props
- Created environment models and textures
- Modeled and textured characters, animating them in Mixamo
- Programmed combat gameplay and UI
- Designed a variety of levels for different combat encounters
- Directed a team of voice actors to bring the characters to life
- Wrote dialogue that accounted whether or not a character was alive at the time
In Descent, players take on the role of Samantha Graceland, a once beloved knight who was imprisoned after killing the king she was meant to protect. While languishing in prison, she began to hear voices and see apparitions of people from her life.
Whether or not the player chooses to sacrifice one or more of the Voices will determine if they take part in subsequent cutscenes, and ultimately decide which of the game's 15 endings they see.
The story and gameplay presented in the prototype was meant to just be the prologue of a much grander story. After the events of the prototype, the player would then decide what path Samantha would take in life, whether it be one of trying to make amends for what she did, or continuing down her path of vengeance and finishing what she started.
